the best way to predict the future is to invent it! I will invent and manifest new business views and advocate business systems that are founded on couragious business insights.
I think it has a lot to do with communication. At the moment, sustainability is too much ‘one way traffic’. Consumers demand high quality at low prices, government laws lead only to more bureaucracy and industry has well-formulated goals, but can they really meet them? NGO’s can give a lot of answers but have to economise on their budgets.
The People4earth standard could be the best way for all these participants to communicate their needs and wishes, to combine forces to reach worldwide sustainability. If this succeeds –and why should it fail?– 2020 will be a very pleasant year to live in.
Human optimism is like a tsunami, proven by the past. It is powerful, get's stronger and overwhelms at a certain moment the earth. Possibilities are endless and in 2020 we will see the first real sign's of prosperity for all. Driven by an optimistic process of ever increasing technical possibilities. Personally I see 2020 as the beginning of the final solution to energy scarcety. By that time we have an end-vision of controllable-waste free- (cold) nuclear fusion. The oceans will be our endless source of energy for millions of years to come.
The world economy (GDP) in 2020, will be completely different in 2020, as the one we feel confortable with now. For example India and China, will be seen in the top 4 economies of the world; bigger than any individual European country. I will contribute to the sustainable world by taking wholesome business actions (people, planet, profit) from a truely global perspective; embracing diversity together in unity.
Everybody who has read Collapse by Jared Diamond will understand that sustainable consumption is a global must given the growing population and fast consumption of our resources. Regardless of evidence of the greenhouse effect. Collective action over frontiers must be taken in time.
The challenge is to bring 2020 forward as much as possible. That can only be done by making sustainability attractive for people. People are willing to change, but they do not want to be changed.
